Grumbling Does Not Honour God – Part 1

Grumbling is the act of complaining and muttering in discontent about someone or something. It is also aimed at finding fault or dissatisfaction about a situation. A complaining Christian is a contradiction to what God expects from them.

The biblical principle is set out in Philippians 2:14-15 , "Do everything without complaining or arguing, so that you may become blameless and pure, children of God without fault in a crooked and depraved generation, in which you shine like stars in the universe." This is a very important and powerful scripture from the Word of God and we should all take it seriously.

Our God does not condone grumbling as it stinks in His nostrils. Complaining or muttering about anything demonstrates a lack of faith in God. When we are faced with problems, we usually resort to grumbling, rather than trusting the Lord to handle them. We often focus on the problems instead of focusing on God and looking for the opportunities before us.
That was exactly what the children of Israel did when they were tested in the wilderness, on their way from Egypt to the Promised Land. They tried God's patience because they refused to trust HIM completely. They were never satisfied with what the Lord did for them and this did not honour God at all.

The bible tells us in Numbers 14:26-30 ,"The Lord said to Moses, "How long will this wicked community grumble against me? I have heard the complaints of these grumbling Israelites. So tell them, "As surely as I live, declares the Lord, I will do to you the very things I heard you say: In this desert your bodies will fall - every one of you twenty years old or more who was counted in the census and who has grumbled against me. Not one of you will enter the land I swore with uplifted hand to make your home, except Caleb son of Jephunneh and Joshua son of Nun."

Wow! This is very serious!  Because of the constant grumbling of the Israelites in the wilderness, they were judged by God and not allowed to enter the Promised Land. When they were grumbling against the Lord, they had spoken some idle words and the Lord said He would do those very things they had spoken with their mouth. That is one of the dangers of grumbling and speaking idle words, as they catch up with those who have spoken them.

We need to be very careful and avoid grumbling or muttering in discontent. There is a lot to gain if we avoid grumbling and trust God instead. We also need to learn to develop a non-complaining, positive attitude that will please the Lord and bring honour to HIM. God is pleased with those who have a heart of gratitude.

PRAYER OF SALVATION

If you have not already committed your life to Jesus and you would like to do so now, please pray this prayer:

"Lord Jesus, I am sorry for all the things I have done wrong. Thank you for dying for me on the cross, to set me free from my sins. I ask you to come into my life as my personal Lord and Saviour, and fill me with the Holy Spirit. Thank you Lord Jesus. Amen."

Congratulations, if you have prayed this prayer. Please look for a Bible-believing church, to fellowship with the brethren. Please do not hesitate to contact me, if I can be of any assistance to you. Remain blessed and enjoy the presence of the Lord.
